Dr. Lenetta Boyce is a consultant musculoskeletal and trauma imaging radiologist with specialist expertise in postmortem imaging. She holds a substantive UK consultant appointment at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Alongside this, she has a special interest in postmortem CT, having completed a postgraduate diploma in imaging for natural and forensic death investigation at the University of Leicester. Dr. Boyce has since reported thousands of PMCTs. She continues to be actively involved in the delivery of high-quality PMCT reporting services within the UK coronial system, collaborating with coroners, pathologists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to help deliver accurate and timely diagnoses.
Her work also extends internationally as a member of the International Society of Forensic Radiology and Imaging (ISFRI) guidelines working group, where she has contributed to several best-practice white papers.
With combined NHS and coronial experience, alongside a passion for training and teaching, Dr. Boyce contributes to the delivery of robust, scalable CT postmortem services, promoting strong governance and reporting standards.
Dr. Jim Simpson (BMedSci, MRCS, FRCR) has been a consultant radiologist since 2007. He initially worked at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust (2007-2014) before moving to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2014.
He has extensive experience in CT postmortem reporting, a field he has specialised in since 2017 following initial training in Leicester. Today, he is widely recognised as one of the UK’s most experienced CT postmortem reporters, having reported over 8,100 cases. He is actively involved in supporting the development of CT postmortem services in new centres nationally, which includes advising coroners and providing practical assistance during service set-up.
In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Simpson was appointed Postmortem CT Advisor to the Royal College of Pathologists’ Death Investigation Committee in 2023, contributing to the shaping of national standards and best practice.
His work has also featured in the television documentary series Cause of Death, which showcases coronial services in Lancashire and highlights the vital role of CT postmortem imaging in investigating deaths in the community.
Dr. Peter Kralt is a consultant neuroradiologist working in various European countries, including at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He completed his medical and radiological training in the Netherlands and has been practising in the field of postmortem and forensic radiology for more than eight years.
He has been involved in more than 4,000 cases. Dr. Kralt co-authored the book Post Mortem CT for Non-Suspicious Adult Deaths: An Introduction, published by Springer in 2021. He has also contributed to national guidance, including the Royal College of Pathologists’ autopsy guidance.
He completed the Bolton Coronial Law Course and has a special interest in osteology and the application of PMCT in forensic anthropology and disaster victim identification. He is a UK medical examiner (RCPathME) and holds a specialist radiology licence to practise in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Iceland.
Dr Smitha Rajaram is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she has worked as a consultant since 2014. She is a core member of the Sheffield Pulmonary Hypertension Unit, one of the largest specialist centres in Europe, delivering advanced CT and MRI services for complex cardiopulmonary disease.
Alongside her substantive NHS practice, Dr Rajaram has been involved in CT postmortem imaging since 2020, contributing specialist expertise to coronial death investigation and imagingled postmortem pathways. Her experience supports accurate assessment of cardiopulmonary causes of death within multidisciplinary and coronial frameworks.
Dr Rajaram holds a Master’s degree from the University of Sheffield, with research focused on imaging, and is a widely published radiologist with significant contributions to peerreviewed literature, including major registrybased studies. She is a key contributor to major national and international research initiatives. Her work underpins evidencebased imaging practice and high standards of clinical governance.
